rootmain: HBase Quick Install in Standalone Mode

1. Create the directory where hbase will be installed

mkdir /usr/local/hbase

2. Download the hbase tar from http://www.apache.org/dyn/closer.cgi/hbase/

3. Extract the downloaded tar.gz file

tar zxvf hbase-0.94.1.tar.gz

4. Edit hbase-site.xml, add the below configuration

 <configuration>
         <property>
                 <name>hbase.rootdir</name>
                 <value>file:///usr/local/hbase/data</value>
         </property>
 </configuration>

This sets the directory where hbase stores its data.

5. Start hbase

bin/start-hbase.sh

6. Verify the installation by connecting to the hbase shell

$bin/hbase shell
HBase Shell; enter 'help' for list of supported commands.
Type "exit" to leave the HBase Shell
